Updated
•1 min read•View as Markdown

Today I began exploring Microsoft Azure, focusing on the fundamentals every engineer should know when working in a cloud environment.

Key Concepts Learned

  • Azure as a Cloud Platform → Microsoft’s cloud offering with 200+ services across compute, networking, storage, AI, and DevOps.

  • Resource Groups → Logical containers for managing resources.

  • Azure Subscription → Controls billing and access.

  • Regions & Availability Zones → Ensure reliability and disaster recovery.

  • Azure Interfaces → Portal (UI), CLI, and PowerShell for managing resources.

Hands-On Practice

  • Set up a free Azure account.

  • Navigated the Azure Portal.

  • Created my first Linux Virtual Machine and practiced start/stop to manage cost.

Key Takeaway

Understanding Azure’s foundations is essential for multi-cloud readiness. Many enterprises adopt AWS + Azure for different workloads, so being comfortable with both platforms adds value as a DevOps/Cloud engineer.
